President John Dramani Mahama has commissioned two newly constructed Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds at Ahyiaem and Nsuapemkrom in the Tano North Municipality of the Ahafo Region.

The facilities are expected to improve access to primary healthcare and bring essential health services closer to residents in the two communities.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony on day one of his two-day Resetting Ghana tour of the Ahafo Region, President Mahama said the decision to allocate 80 per cent of the District Assemblies Common Fund directly to the Assemblies was enabling them to provide essential infrastructure to improve the lives of their constituents.

He said the Assemblies were expected to use the funds to undertake key development projects annually, including the construction of two CHPS compounds, two-unit classroom blocks and district economy markets, as well as the completion of inherited projects.

President Mahama said the Ahyiaem CHPS compound would soon be registered by the Ghana Health Service under the Free Primary Healthcare programme, allowing residents to access healthcare services under the initiative.

The Dormaahemaa, Dr Akosua Frema Edwaaben, assured the President that the community would maintain the facility to ensure its sustainability and continued delivery of healthcare services to residents.

The commissioning of the two facilities forms part of efforts to strengthen primary healthcare delivery and expand access to essential services in the Ahafo Region.
