Prof. Denis Worlanyo Aheto Sworn In As 12th Vice Chancellor of University of Cape Coast

Prof. Denis Worlanyo Aheto has been sworn into office as the 12th Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast on Saturday, August 1, 2026.  

The ceremony was graced by Osabarimba Dr. Kwesi Attah II, Omanhen of Oguaa Traditional Council, and Nananom, representatives from the Ministry of Education including Mr. Jinapor, Editor of the Insight Newspaper Mr. Kwesi Pratt Jr., His Lordship William Atuguba, Hon. Ekow Panyin Okyere, Hon. Kwamena Minta Nyarko, Mayor George Justice Arthur, Chancellor Dr. (Sir) Sam Esson Jonah who also chaired the occasion, former vice chancellors and pro Vice chancellors,dignitaries, staff, members,the media, and the entire university convocation.  

In his address, Prof. Aheto expressed his "profound humility and gratitude," describing the appointment not just as an honor but as "a call to service." He reaffirmed the vision, mission and strategic aspiration of the University of Cape Coast: "Together we will build on our rich traditions of academic excellence, innovations, integrity and service to society."  

Reflecting on his previous roles, Prof. Aheto noted that as Pro Vice Chancellor for 19 months and Acting Vice Chancellor for the past 10 months, he is very much aware of the enormous weight and task the office demands.  

He highlighted key initiatives introduced during the period. The  University of Cape Coast Governing Council, in compliance with a directive from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) issued on September 19, 2025, strengthened administration by decentralizing financial approvals and travel authorization processes to the level of the students.

The Council also commissioned a university report chaired by Prof. Aheto, which led to the appointment of 92 members of staff and the promotion of 160 staff members.  
In the 2025/2026 academic year, the university graduated 17,542 students — the highest number in the institution’s history.  

Prof. Aheto also announced that a Memorandum of Agreement has been initiated and signed with ASTRAL Learning towards the establishment of a fully digital AI, E-Campus. The project is aimed at enhancing UCC’s global visibility, strengthening operational efficiency, and enabling scalable growth of academic programs.

  

He added that the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission has granted approval for the establishment of the UCC E-Campus in partnership with ASTRAL Learning. Prof. Aheto pledged to lead the university with innovation and service as it positions itself as a leading institution for research, digital learning, and community impact.
