Police announce temporary ban on concrete mixer trucks in Accra and Tema

The Ghana Police Service has issued a temporary three-day restriction prohibiting transit concrete mixer trucks from operating on roads within Accra and Tema, effective Friday, August 28 through Sunday, August 30, 2026.

The decision was announced following a stakeholder engagement led by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, on Thursday, August 27, 2026. Held under the auspices of the National Security Secretariat, the meeting convened owners and operators of transit mixer trucks to address road safety compliance and traffic regulations.

During the engagement, stakeholders raised concerns regarding the frequent spillage of concrete and other materials from trucks onto public roads. The spillage was highlighted as a serious issue that obstructs traffic, poses hazards to motorists and pedestrians, and damages road surfaces. In response, police authorities warned operators to ensure materials are strictly contained and not discharged onto roads during delivery operations.

The three-day operational suspension is intended to allow authorities to clear and clean road surfaces that have been affected by accumulated concrete and debris. The police emphasized that concrete mixer trucks are strictly barred from undertaking delivery operations within Accra during this timeframe. Any vehicle caught moving in breach of the directive will face immediate enforcement action under the law.

The meeting was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Roads and Highways, the Ghana Highways Authority, as well as concrete mixer truck owners and operators.
