The Cape Coast Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) has ordered the temporary closure of a supermarket in the metropolis for failing to comply with directives issued during the nationwide clean-up exercise.

The action formed part of efforts by the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly to enforce environmental sanitation regulations and promote a cleaner and healthier city. During an inspection tour, authorities observed that the supermarket had allegedly failed to adhere to sanitation directives and requirements outlined by the Assembly ahead of the exercise.

Speaking during the inspection, the MCE stressed that the Assembly would not tolerate actions that undermine efforts to improve sanitation within the metropolis. He noted that all businesses, institutions, and residents have a responsibility to support initiatives aimed at maintaining a clean environment.

According to the MCE, the closure serves as a warning to other businesses and individuals who disregard sanitation regulations. He emphasized that environmental cleanliness remains a key priority of the Assembly and that offenders will face the necessary sanctions.

The nationwide clean-up exercise, which was observed across various parts of the country, sought to encourage community participation in maintaining clean surroundings, clearing drains, and preventing environmental health hazards.

Residents and business owners were urged to cooperate with local authorities and actively participate in sanitation activities to help create a cleaner, safer, and more attractive Cape Coast.
