Media practitioners from across Ghana gathered at the Flagstaff House in Accra for the First Women in Governance and Media Engagement, a landmark event aimed at strengthening collaboration between women in leadership and women in the media.
The high-level forum brought together Cabinet Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), Chief Executive Officers of state institutions, and heads of security agencies. The engagement created a strategic platform for dialogue on leadership, visibility, influence, and public trust.
Delivering the keynote address, the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, underscored the importance of confidence and bold participation in leadership. She stated emphatically that confidence has no gender and encouraged women to step into leadership spaces with courage and strategy.
She further cautioned that leadership without influence is risky, highlighting the critical role the media plays in shaping public perception, strengthening accountability, and driving national development. According to her, women must not see themselves as mere beneficiaries of governance but as active drivers of governance and national transformation.
The event was graced by several distinguished dignitaries, including Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, Deputy Chief of Staff; Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection; Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, Minister for Tourism; Emelia Arthur, Minister for Fisheries; Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister for Government Communications; and Julius Debrah, Chief of Staff.
Heads of key security institutions, including the Ghana Prisons Service and the Ghana National Fire Service, were also in attendance, demonstrating cross-sector commitment to inclusive leadership and governance. The engagement also attracted notable media personalities such as Gifty Anti, Portia Gabor of TV3 Ghana, Anita Akuffo, and Akumaa Mama Zimbi of Adom FM, among others.
Representing media women from the Central Region was Edwina Gilda Annan, popularly known as Auntie Nyaniba of TW Radio 88.9FM, Cape Coast. Her participation highlighted the growing contribution of regional media practitioners to national conversations on governance and development.
The Women in Governance and Media Engagement forms part of broader national efforts to deepen women’s participation in leadership, governance, and media development. It reinforces the call for stronger representation, meaningful influence, and sustained collaboration between women leaders and media professionals in shaping Ghana’s future.
