Samini urges Ghanaian musicians to learn from Nigeria’s global success

Ghanaian musician Samini has responded to complaints by some Ghanaians over the growing influence of foreign music in the local market.

According to him, the trend should rather inspire artistes to work harder and expand beyond their borders. Speaking to Doreen Andoh on the Cosmopolitan Mix on Joy FM, Samini said he believes crossing borders with music is not a bad thing but an opportunity for growth and global exposure.

“I look at Africa as a united group of people. So Nigerian music or Ghanaian music is African music to me. Music from North America and music from South America is music from in that case if I want my music to blow in certain territories I shouldn’t have a problem when someone else’s music is blowing in other territories.

“What I have to do is to look at the blueprint they are using that is helping them to go beyond their borders and be heard everywhere, so that I can apply that to what I am doing,” he said. In the meantime, Samini has released his eighth studio album titled ORIGIN8A, which features musicians such as Stonebwoy, Kofi Kinaata, Kuami Eugene, Kaakie, Soweto Gospel Choir and M.anifest.

The award-winning musician said he is hopeful the album will earn him recognition at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards.
