Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has called on women in leadership and the media to embrace reflection, responsibility, and a renewed commitment to strengthening democratic governance.
She made the call while addressing participants at the First Annual National Forum on Women in Government and Media, held under the theme “Leadership, Visibility and Public Trust.” The high-level gathering brought together women leaders, policymakers, and media professionals to deliberate on their role in shaping national development and public confidence.
In her remarks, the Vice President underscored the importance of women reflecting on their individual journeys while remaining mindful of the many young women who look up to them as symbols of possibility and progress. She emphasized that leadership goes beyond formal titles and positions, noting that it often begins with simple yet impactful acts such as listening, mentoring, and offering encouragement.
Highlighting the central role of the media in shaping national consciousness, she stated that visibility influences power and directs public narratives. According to her, women in journalism and public office wield significant influence in setting standards, strengthening accountability, and elevating credible voices in society.
“In many respects, the media serves as a classroom for society,” she observed, stressing that it plays a vital role in establishing benchmarks for integrity and responsible public discourse.
Vice President Opoku-Agyemang further encouraged women to have confidence in their capabilities, affirming that institutions that create space for women in decision-making processes are stronger, more inclusive, and ultimately more impactful. She urged women serving in both public office and journalism to recognize their responsibility in reinforcing democratic governance and advancing public trust.
The forum provided a platform for meaningful dialogue and collaboration, reinforcing the shared commitment of women leaders and media professionals to promote transparency, accountability, and inclusive national development.
