Accra, February 4, 2026 Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has inaugurated ten Revenue Enhancement Teams as part of efforts to strengthen revenue protection, boost operational efficiency, and ensure sustainable water service delivery nationwide.
The inauguration, held in Accra on Tuesday, was officiated by GWL’s Managing Director, Mr. Adam Mutawakilu, who described the initiative as a major milestone in the company’s transformation agenda.
According to Mr. Mutawakilu, the establishment of the teams underscores GWL’s commitment to financial sustainability, accountability, and customer-focused service delivery.
He explained that the teams will focus on enhancing revenue collection, reducing customer indebtedness, uncovering and regularising illegal connections, verifying meters, and correcting billing anomalies to help reduce non-revenue water losses.
Mr. Mutawakilu noted that the expansion of the teams from three to ten was informed by the success of a pilot phase launched in August 2025, which yielded remarkable results in detecting illegal connections and recovering lost revenue.
Each of the ten teams will operate across the country and collaborate closely with GWL’s commercial, technical, legal, and ICT departments, leveraging data-driven monitoring tools and customer engagement strategies to achieve measurable outcomes.
He added that the teams will also work with National Security personnel to ensure the safety of field officers during inspections and enforcement activities, following past incidents of harassment and attacks on staff.
“The teams are not meant to harass customers but to promote compliance, fairness, and accountability for the collective good,” Mr. Mutawakilu emphasised.
He further appealed to customers to pay their water bills promptly, stressing that revenue collections are vital for sustaining water treatment operations, electricity supply, infrastructure upkeep, and overall service improvements.
Expressing optimism about the initiative, Mr. Mutawakilu officially inaugurated the teams, stating that it represents another step toward building a financially strong, customer-oriented, and resilient Ghana Water Limited.
