Ghana’s Taekwondo athletes shone at the Naija Taekwondo Open International Championship in Abuja, Nigeria, winning two medals in preparation for the 2025 World Championship in China.
The championship, held on August 20-21, 2025, saw Ghana’s Eunice Omolara Adedapo claim Silver in the -53kg category after a thrilling final against Niger. Adedapo, seeded No. 1, lost 1-0 in the last 15 seconds of the third round. Meanwhile, Marriane Selassie Max-Voy defied expectations in her new weight class (-73kg) and bagged Bronze.
Although Ibrahim Salifu gave his best, he bowed out in the men’s Ibrahim Salifu after a tough fight against Côte d’Ivoire’s Mohammed Sidibe. The medals will boost the athletes’ world ranking points, crucial for their preparations for the World Championships in Wuxi, China (October 24-30, 2025).
The athletes are now calling for financial support to represent Ghana at the World Championships. With their sights set on success, they need backing to make their dreams a reality.
