GES Suspends Adisadel College, Aggrey Memorial SHS from Regional Sports for Two Years

The Central Regional Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has suspended Adisadel College and Aggrey Memorial Senior High School from participating in all zonal and regional sporting programmes and competitions for two years.

The suspension, which takes immediate effect from the 2026/2027 academic year, follows what the Directorate described as inappropriate conduct by students of the two schools at a location outside the Cape Coast Sports Stadium after the Inter-School Athletics Competition held on February 19 and 20, 2026.

In a letter dated September 28, 2026, and signed by the Central Regional Director of Education, Dr. Evelyn Owusu-Ansah, the Directorate said the conduct of the students was inconsistent with the standards of discipline, sportsmanship, respect and responsible behaviour expected of participating schools.

The Directorate stressed that schools taking part in regional sporting programmes are expected to uphold these standards both at competition venues and during activities directly connected to such events. As part of the suspension, the two schools have been directed to ensure that their students, athletes, coaches and officials comply with the decision.

They are also expected to cooperate with any investigations or disciplinary proceedings arising from the incident and take appropriate internal measures to reinforce discipline among students and sports representatives. The schools have further been directed to refrain from representing their respective institutions in zonal and regional sporting activities during the suspension period.

The letter also requires both institutions to fulfil their financial commitments to their respective zones and the region. The two-year suspension is expected to keep Adisadel College and Aggrey Memorial Senior High School out of zonal and regional sporting competitions throughout the period, pending further review of the matter by the Directorate.
