The DJs Union of Ghana has called for professionalism and mutual respect between musicians and DJs following an incident involving dancehall artiste Shatta Wale and his DJ during the 2026 ShattaFest in Ho.

The Union, in a press release issued on October 4, did not mention Shatta Wale or the DJ by name. However, the statement comes shortly after footage from the ShattaFest concert showed Shatta Wale confronting his DJ during his performance and threatening to slap him after an apparent change in the music.

The DJs Union described musicians and DJs as “partners in progress,” stressing that both play important roles in Ghana’s music industry.

According to the Union, DJs are instrumental in breaking new songs, controlling the energy of live performances and ensuring that an artiste’s music reaches a wider audience. It therefore urged artistes to treat DJs with the same level of professionalism and respect given to other members of a creative team.

The Union also encouraged artistes and DJs to communicate clearly before performances, including through brief soundchecks and run-throughs, to avoid misunderstandings on stage.

The statement further called for calm and respectful dialogue before, during and after performances, emphasising that successful shows are built on teamwork.

The call for professionalism comes days after Shatta Wale’s ShattaFest performance in Ho, where he also preached unity among Ghanaian artistes and performed Stonebwoy’s Putuu on stage.

The DJs Union concluded by urging the music fraternity to work together with “warmth, understanding, and a shared commitment to excellence” for the continued growth of Ghanaian music.
