Deadly attack in Mali: Govt tells Ghanaian traders and drivers who ply the route to suspend their movements

In view of the deadly attack in Bamako, Mali, the government of Ghana has directed Ghanaian traders and drivers who ply the route for trading activities to suspend movements until further notice.

A statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the Government of Ghana is working in close collaboration with relevant Malian authorities and would provide updates to facilitate the resumption of trading activities in due course.
The government also told Ghanaians living in Mali to exercise caution and limit non-essential movements.


"We urge you all to maintain regular contact with the Embassy of Ghana in Bamako," the statement said.

The Government expressed concern over escalating security situation in the Sahel region and in particular the most recent coordinated terrorist attacks carried out on Saturday, 25th April, 2026 on several military positions in Mali including the capital Bamako, which has resulted in the demise of the Minister of Defence, General Sadio Camara as well as some military personnel and civilians.

The Government of Ghana extends its condolences to the Government and People of Mali at this tragic turn of events and wishes the injured speedy recovery.

Violent extremism must have no place in our world, and we must step up collective efforts to end this horror, it said.

The Government of Ghana reiterates its solidarity with the Government of Mali and assures Ghanaian nationals that their security, safety and well-being remain paramount.
