Tanker drivers in Kumasi have embarked on a three-day sit-down strike over concerns about inaccurate meter readings and the lack of proper parking facilities.

According to the drivers, discrepancies in the measurement of petroleum products are negatively affecting their operations and leading to financial losses. They insist that the quantities recorded by the metering system often do not match the actual volumes loaded.

In addition to the metering challenges, the drivers say inadequate parking spaces have forced them to leave their trucks along roadsides while waiting to load or discharge petroleum products. They argue that this practice exposes them to security and safety risks and also creates difficulties for other road users, especially on busy roads.

The drivers are therefore calling on the relevant authorities to urgently provide a secure and designated parking area for tanker operators. They are also demanding a thorough review of the metering system to ensure accuracy and transparency.

The strike has brought tanker operations to a standstill, with the drivers expressing hope that their action will prompt authorities and stakeholders to address their concerns. They maintain that they are willing to resume work once meaningful steps are taken to resolve the issues.

Meanwhile, there are growing concerns that an extended strike could disrupt the supply and distribution of petroleum products across Kumasi and other parts of the Ashanti Region.
