Stonebwoy and Sarkodie clash publicly over principles and loyalty

Ghanaian music stars Stonebwoy and Sarkodie have exchanged public statements on X over principles, personal expectations and how artistes should handle relationships within the music industry.

The exchange followed a post by Sarkodie cautioning artistes against entertaining toxic energy from fans who attack other brands or artistes to promote them.

Stonebwoy subsequently addressed Sarkodie, referring to a phone conversation between them after Sarkodie’s RAH show in the UK. He said their discussion touched on artiste behaviour, industry relationships and principles.

“You were very clear about how no artiste could be ‘forced’ to uphold any form of principle. That, literally, in our industry, artistes must play along so far as it benefits them.”

Stonebwoy added: “And you will agree that without PRINCIPLE, advice is an OPINION.”

Sarkodie rejected Stonebwoy’s interpretation, saying he never suggested that artistes should simply “play along” for their own benefit.

“A lot to unpack here, but first things first there’s no need to say something I never said that artistes should play along so far as it benefits them.”

He also questioned why Stonebwoy had linked his earlier post to himself, saying he had never deliberately used social media to target him.

“First off, there’s no post I’ve made in my life trying to shade you, and I don’t respond when fans want to make connections because I only care about your opinion, not what someone else makes it seem.”

Sarkodie said the two had different approaches to disagreements and that he had continued to reach out to Stonebwoy despite previous misunderstandings.

“There are things I find easy to let slide, and there are things I feel I need to react to. We’re not all the same, and I’m okay with that.”

He also pointed to their professional relationship, saying he had invited Stonebwoy to his RAH show, celebrated his milestones and discussed opportunities for them to perform together.

The public exchange has renewed discussion about the relationship between the two music heavyweights, particularly around loyalty, personal boundaries, industry relationships and the influence of social media on Ghana’s music scene.
