Queen Máxima of the Netherlands is expected to visit Manhyia Palace on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, where she will pay a courtesy call on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and the Asantehemaa, Nana Yaa Akyaa II.

The visit forms part of her official four-day trip to Ghana, scheduled to begin on Monday, November 2, with her departure expected on Thursday, November 5.

Queen Máxima is undertaking the visit in her capacity as the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Financial Health (UNSGSA), a role through which she promotes financial inclusion and financial well-being.

Her visit to the Manhyia Palace is particularly significant as it is scheduled to take place on Awukudae, one of the traditional days observed in the Asante calendar.

The engagement is also expected to reinforce the longstanding historical and diplomatic relationship between the Dutch Royal Family and the Asante Kingdom, which has been characterised by notable royal exchanges over the years.

A significant moment in this relationship occurred in April 2002, when the then Crown Prince Willem-Alexander and his wife, Princess Máxima, visited Manhyia Palace and were received by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

Two months later, in June 2002, the Asantehene and his wife, Lady Julia Osei Tutu, travelled to the Netherlands, where they were received by the then Queen Beatrix.

Queen Máxima’s scheduled visit will therefore represent another important chapter in the enduring relationship between the Netherlands and the Asante Kingdom, while highlighting the continued significance of traditional institutions in Ghana’s international diplomatic engagements.
