The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), in collaboration with the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), has destroyed several cannabis farms at Siiru in the Nadowli District of the Upper West Region following an intelligence-led operation.
The operation forms part of ongoing efforts by the security agencies to clamp down on the illegal cultivation, production and distribution of narcotic substances across the country.
The joint team reportedly targeted several cannabis plantations identified through intelligence gathering, leading to the destruction of the farms in the community.
The exercise underscores the commitment of NACOC and the Ghana Immigration Service to strengthening inter-agency collaboration in the fight against drug-related activities and protecting communities from the harmful effects of narcotic substances.
Cannabis cultivation and other activities involving prohibited narcotic substances remain a major concern for law enforcement authorities, given their potential implications for public safety, security and national development.
The operation is expected to serve as a warning to individuals and groups involved in the illegal cultivation and trade of narcotic substances, as security agencies intensify efforts to dismantle such activities across the country.
The agencies have reiterated the importance of intelligence-led operations and public cooperation in the fight against drug-related offences.
