A new monument honouring Osabarimba Dr. Kwesi Atta II, Paramount Chief of the Oguaa Traditional Area, has been unveiled at the Petrol Roundabout in Cape Coast, in recognition of his leadership, legacy and service to the people of Oguaa.
The monument, located at the Petrol Roundabout in Cape Coast, was initiated and erected through the vision of Lawyer Charles Kojo Walker, Esq., Founder and President of the Walker Youth Empowerment Foundation and Lead Convener FANTEFEST.
The monument serves as a lasting tribute to Osabarimba Dr. Kwesi Atta II’s leadership, dedication and contributions to the development of Oguaa, the Central Region and Ghana. The unveiling brought together traditional leaders, dignitaries, community members and other stakeholders to celebrate the legacy of the Oguaa Omanhen.
As part of the ceremony, the Walker Youth Empowerment Foundation and FANTEFEST also honoured the Paramount Queen Mother of the Oguaa Traditional Area, Nana Akua Abookye VI and a number of distinguished personalities including the TW Radio's CEO, Mr Kweku Etuaful with citations for their exceptional service, leadership, commitment to community development and contributions towards the advancement of society.
The event therefore went beyond the unveiling of the monument, providing an opportunity to celebrate leadership while recognising individuals whose efforts continue to positively impact communities. Speaking to the media after the ceremony, Lawyer Charles Kojo Walker explained that it was important for him and his foundation to honour Osabarimba Dr. Kwesi Atta II.
He said growing up in Cape Coast, Osabarimba was one of the personalities he looked up to, making the monument a personal tribute to a traditional leader whose leadership had made an impression on him. Mr. Walker also spoke about the purpose of the Walker Youth Empowerment Foundation, explaining that the foundation was established with the youth of Cape Coast at heart.
According to him, the foundation seeks to develop, build and motivate young people to succeed in various fields of life. He said the foundation would continue to support initiatives that empower young people, help them realise their potential and position them to contribute meaningfully to the development of Cape Coast and Ghana.
Speaking at the unveiling, Osabarimba Dr. Kwesi Atta II, who was visibly emotional, expressed his profound appreciation to Lawyer Charles Kojo Walker and the Walker Youth Empowerment Foundation for the honour. He thanked Mr. Walker for the gesture and for recognising his leadership and service to Oguaa.
The Omanhen also used the occasion to call for positive behavioural change among residents of Cape Coast, particularly the youth. He stressed the need for residents to demonstrate discipline, respect, responsibility and a strong sense of community in order to support the development and progress of the city. Osabarimba encouraged the youth to make positive choices, uphold the values of Oguaa and contribute to building a better future for Cape Coast.
The monument is expected to serve as a permanent reminder of Osabarimba Dr. Kwesi Atta II’s leadership and service, while inspiring present and future generations to embrace humility, integrity, positive behaviour and dedication to community development.
The ceremony ultimately celebrated not only the legacy of an illustrious traditional leader but also the importance of recognising service, empowering the youth and promoting positive values for the continued development of Cape Coast and Oguaa.
