The Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) has closed down sections of the Ashaiman China Mall warehouse containing products, including mattresses and electrical appliances, suspected to be manufactured with substandard materials.
The closure was executed during the second day of the Authority’s enforcement operations, which are aimed at clamping down on companies producing and distributing inferior goods within the Ghanaian market.

Speaking to the media after the operation on Tuesday, May 19, the GSA Regional Manager, Clement Kubati, disclosed that several items failed quality tests conducted by the Authority.
He noted that out of approximately 15 electrical bulbs sampled, all were found to be fake, warning that such products present a fire hazard in homes. He stated that the GSA would secure the mattresses and bulbs, lock the warehouse, and ensure the law takes its course.
Mr Kubati further revealed that the managers of the facility will face fines to serve as a deterrent to others.
He emphasised that Ghana is not a dumping ground for substandard products and confirmed that the operators were manufacturing without a license. The managers are expected to meet with the GSA to address the violations and the resulting legal consequences.
