“Government Putting Money in the Sinking Fund Is Welcoming News” – Prof. Seyram Kawor Analyses 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review on The Workshop

Prof. Seyram Kawor, an Associate Professor of Finance and Economist, has shared his expert perspective on the key highlights of the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review presented to Parliament by the Minister of Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.

Prof. Kawor made the submission during an appearance on The Workshop, a flagship programme on TW Radio, where he engaged host Sir Roy in a detailed discussion on the government’s economic policies, financial management strategies and the broader implications of the budget review for Ghanaians.

During the conversation, Prof. Kawor examined some of the major issues highlighted in the Mid-Year Budget Review, including government’s approach to managing public finances, improving economic stability and creating the right conditions for sustainable growth.

He explained that the budget review provides an opportunity to assess government’s performance halfway through the financial year while outlining measures aimed at strengthening the economy and addressing key national priorities.

“Government putting money in the Sinking Fund is a welcoming news,” he said, noting that such a step could help the country prepare adequately for future debt obligations and promote greater confidence in Ghana’s financial system.

He further emphasised the importance of maintaining discipline in public expenditure, strengthening revenue mobilisation and implementing policies that will support businesses and improve the livelihoods of citizens.
