Government declares Friday, July 3, public holiday in observance of Republic Day

The Ministry of the Interior has announced that Friday, July 3, 2026, will be observed as a public holiday across Ghana in commemoration of Republic Day.
In a press release issued on 24 June 2026, the ministry noted that Republic Day, which is a statutory public holiday, falls on Wednesday, 1 July 2026.
However, President John Dramani Mahama has, by Executive Instrument (E.I.) and in accordance with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act, 2001 (Act 601), as amended, declared Friday, 3 July 2026, a public holiday to be observed nationwide.
The ministry urged the general public to take note of the declaration and observe the day accordingly.
The statement was signed by the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak.
