Education Minister calls for full investigation into death of UCC student

The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has called for a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a University of Cape Coast (UCC) student, Ms Innocentia Avinu.
In a statement issued on Sunday, June 14, 2026, the Ministry of Education said it had received reports of the death of the Level 200 student, whose body was found at a beach in Cape Coast.
The minister directed the authorities of the University of Cape Coast to work closely with the Ghana Police Service to investigate the incident and establish the circumstances leading to her death.
The ministry extended its condolences to the family, friends, and the University community.
It also urged the public to allow the investigative process to proceed without interference.
The statement was signed by Hashmin Mohammed, Press Secretary to the Minister for Education.
