New Ghana national football team head coach Carlos Queiroz has described his appointment as the biggest challenge of his managerial career, insisting he is fully prepared for the task ahead.
Speaking at his unveiling at the Alisa Hotel, the Portuguese tactician noted that despite managing several top teams, the Ghana job stands above the rest.
“I have handled many teams in my career, but this is the biggest challenge I have ever faced,” he said. “Since arriving, I have felt the enormous soul of the Black Stars, and that means the dreams and expectations are equally huge. I’m ready for it—are you ready too? Let’s do it together.”
Queiroz, who has previously coached top sides including Real Madrid CF, Manchester United, the Portugal national football team, and the Iran national football team, will lead Ghana into the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be hosted in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
The 73-year-old brings vast World Cup experience, having guided South Africa national football team to qualification for the 2002 FIFA World Cup, led Portugal to the knockout stage in 2010, and managed Iran at both the 2014 and 2018 editions.
His résumé also includes coaching spells with the national teams of Egypt national football team, Oman national football team, Japan national football team, and Qatar national football team.
Queiroz is expected to immediately begin preparations ahead of the tournament, which kicks off on June 11, 2026. Ghana will open their campaign against Panama national football team on June 17 in Toronto, before taking on England national football team and Croatia national football team in the remaining group matches.
