Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has made his priorities clear, placing full emphasis on delivering success for Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Speaking at his first press conference in Accra, the Portuguese trainer did not mince words about the task ahead, stressing that the global tournament remains his overriding objective. “In this moment 99.9% of my focus is on success at the World Cup,” he said, underlining the urgency surrounding his short-term mandate.

Appointed by the Ghana Football Association earlier this month, Queiroz takes charge at a critical time, with Ghana set to compete in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia.

With the tournament fast approaching, the experienced coach is expected to quickly stamp his authority on the squad.

Beyond results on the pitch, Queiroz also spoke about shaping a stronger identity for the national team, pointing to the need for a shift in mentality. “Ghana will not only be a country of football, but a country of champions,” he stated, setting a high bar for performance and ambition.

The comments reflect a clear intent to move the Black Stars beyond participation to genuine competitiveness on the world stage. For Queiroz, success will be measured not just by results, but by the team’s ability to compete with the very best.

Ghana will face Panama, England, and Croatia in Group L of the Mundial, with qualification to the next round the minimum target the experienced gaffer must attain to unlock a possible long-term contract.
