The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced the extension of the application deadline for the vacant Black Stars head coach position to October 15, 2026, as authorities seek to attract a wider pool of qualified candidates.

The decision was announced in a statement on Friday, October 9, following consultations between the GFA, the Ministry of Sports and Recreation and the Black Stars Coach Search Committee. The committee had initially been expected to submit its recommendations by Friday, October 9, after being tasked with finding a successor to Carlos Queiroz, who left the position on October 1.

However, the GFA said the extension would give interested candidates additional time to apply and allow the committee to undertake a comprehensive assessment. “To ensure that the widest possible pool of suitably qualified candidates is available for consideration, the application deadline for the position of Black Stars Head Coach has been extended to 15th October 2026,” the statement said.

The committee will continue evaluating, interviewing and shortlisting candidates throughout October and November, with its final recommendation to follow. The recruitment process will consider applicants’ technical ability, leadership qualities, cultural suitability and capacity to establish high-performance standards within the national team.

Former GFA vice-president Fred Pappoe chairs the five-member committee, which also includes Stephen Appiah, Anthony Baffoe, Agbesi Dzakpasu and Faisal Chibsah. Meanwhile, an interim technical team will manage the Black Stars during the November international window.

Ghana are seeking a new coach after losing their opening two matches in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, including a 4-2 home defeat to The Gambia.
