Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has held discussions with the leadership of the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) at her office, focusing on the Centre’s mandate and its expanding role in promoting peace, security and inclusion across Ghana and the wider West African region.
The engagement highlighted KAIPTC’s continued contribution as a leading regional hub for peacekeeping training, research and policy dialogue. The Vice President commended the Centre for its sustained efforts in strengthening institutional capacity and shaping conversations around security governance.
She particularly acknowledged the Centre’s strong emphasis on women, peace and security, youth mentorship and institutional reform, describing them as critical pillars for national and regional stability. According to her, inclusive approaches to peacebuilding remain essential in addressing emerging security threats and maintaining social cohesion.
During the meeting, emphasis was placed on the shared responsibility required to sustain peace and ensure that state institutions remain aligned with their core mandates. The Vice President underscored the importance of strengthening early warning and mediation mechanisms, noting that proactive and timely interventions are crucial to preventing the escalation of tensions.
The discussions also stressed the need to deepen women’s participation in peace processes and nurture youth leadership as part of a long-term strategy for resilient governance. Enhancing institutional visibility and public awareness of KAIPTC’s work was identified as another key priority.
Additionally, the meeting explored the growing relevance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in governance and security research. Both parties recognised the potential of AI-driven tools in improving data analysis and early warning systems, while calling for clarity, ethical standards and responsible application in order to safeguard democratic principles.
