TW Radio Engages Amateur Boxing Association to Develop Boxing Talent in Cape Coast

TW Radio has engaged the Ghana Amateur Boxing Association (GABA) to explore ways of improving amateur boxing and developing boxing talent in Cape Coast. The meeting, held last week in Accra, focused on a proposed initiative to acquire a professional boxing ring for use in Cape Coast, providing boxing enthusiasts and aspiring athletes with a dedicated facility to train and develop their skills.

Boxing has a notable history in Cape Coast, with the city having produced and nurtured boxing talents over the years. However, limited access to dedicated training facilities, equipment and structured competitive opportunities has presented challenges to the continued development of the sport. The proposed initiative seeks to build on Cape Coast’s boxing culture by creating a more organised pathway for young and emerging boxers.

Under the proposed partnership, the Ghana Amateur Boxing Association will support talent development through qualified coaches and referees, as well as facilitate the organisation of boxing bouts in Cape Coast. The partnership will also seek to groom promising boxers from the amateur level through structured training and competition until they progress into professional boxing.

Mr. Kweku Etuaful, the CEO of TW Radio, Thomas Hughes Amissah, also referred to as "Skillful," the Deputy Managing Director of National Investment Bank PLC, a proud Cape Coast native and a strong supporter of TW Radio initiatives; and representatives from the Central Regional Boxing Federation were present at the meeting.

The proposed boxing initiative adds to TW Radio’s growing involvement in sports and sports development in Cape Coast and beyond. In the later part of last year saw the station establishing a partnership with Elmina Sharks Football Club, supporting the club through media coverage, match updates, interviews and fan-centred programmes and other incentives aimed at increasing the visibility of the team and strengthening its connection with supporters.

TW Radio has also been actively involved in the coverage and promotion of school and university sporting activities in the Central Region, while expanding its dedicated sports platform, TW Sports, to provide greater visibility for athletes, teams and sporting events.

At the international level, TW Radio was associated with Team Ghana’s participation at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, supporting the national team’s campaign and providing coverage of Ghanaian athletes and their performances during the Games. 

These engagements reflect TW Radio’s growing interest in using its media platform and corporate partnerships to promote sporting talent, increase the visibility of athletes and teams, and create opportunities for sports development in Cape Coast, the Central Region and Ghana.

The initiative is expected to benefit boxing enthusiasts and aspiring talents in Cape Coast by providing greater access to training facilities, professional guidance and competitive opportunities. The collaboration forms part of efforts to support sports development in Cape Coast and create platforms for emerging talents to discover, develop and showcase their abilities.
