Ramatu Quaye Exits Glasgow 2026 After Round of 16 Defeat to Canada's Amber-Jane Wall

Team Ghana's hopes of a breakthrough in the boxing competition at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games suffered another setback on Monday as Ramatu Quaye was eliminated in the women's 51kg Round of 16 after a unanimous points defeat to Canada's Amber-Jane Wall.

Competing in the opening boxing contest of Day Four, Quaye faced a confident Wall, who controlled the bout from the outset to secure a comprehensive 5-0 unanimous decision and book her place in the quarter-finals.

The Canadian made an impressive start, taking the opening round 10-9 on all five judges' scorecards. Wall continued to dictate the pace in the second round, with four judges scoring it 10-9 in her favour, while the fifth judge awarded her a more convincing 10-8 advantage.

Needing a strong finish to turn the contest around, Quaye was unable to mount a comeback in the final round. Wall closed out the bout in dominant fashion, earning 10-8 scores from all five judges. Quaye's challenge was further complicated by a two-point deduction, resulting in final scorecards of 30-24, 30-23, 30-24, 30-24 and 30-24, all in favour of the Canadian.

The victory sees Amber-Jane Wall progress to the next stage of the women's 51kg competition, while Quaye's campaign at Glasgow 2026 comes to an end in the Round of 16.

The defeat also continues a difficult run for Team Ghana's women boxers at the Games. Quaye joins Nancy Bamfo, who exited the women's 54kg division, and Adelaide Dede Djabatey, who was eliminated in the women's 57kg event, as Ghana looks to regroup in the remaining boxing contests. Despite the disappointing result, Team Ghana will be hoping its remaining boxers can produce stronger performances as the boxing competition continues in Glasgow.
