President Mahama Nominates New Ministers of State and Reassigns Key Portfolios

President John Dramani Mahama has nominated two new Ministers of State and reassigned two serving ministers to new portfolios as part of efforts to strengthen governance and improve the delivery of government policies.

According to a statement issued by the Presidency Communications Office on Friday, August 7, 2026, and signed by the Minister for Government Communications and Presidential Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the nominations have been submitted to Parliament through the Speaker for approval in line with Article 78(1) of the 1992 Constitution.

Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, Member of Parliament, has been nominated as Minister for Environment, Science and Technology. Her appointment is expected to bring renewed focus to environmental sustainability, scientific innovation, and technological advancement in the country.

Mahama Ayariga, Member of Parliament, has also been nominated to head the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs. The ministry plays a crucial role in local governance, traditional leadership engagement, and the promotion of religious harmony across the nation.

In addition to the new nominations, President Mahama has reassigned two ministers to different portfolios. Hon. Kenneth Gilbert Adjei has been moved to the Ministry of Defence, while Ahmed Ibrahim, MP, has been reassigned to the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources.

The changes form part of the President's ongoing efforts to position experienced leaders in strategic sectors of government to enhance efficiency and accelerate national development.

The nominations will now be considered by Parliament before the appointees officially assume their new responsibilities.
