The New Patriotic Party is set to stage a protest in Sunyani today, Wednesday, April 22, a move expected to heighten political tensions in the Bono Region.

The demonstration, dubbed “Yen Suro Ahunahuna” meaning “We are not afraid of intimidation” is anticipated to draw party supporters, sympathisers, and residents from across the region.

The protest is in response to the arrest of the party’s Sunyani East Communications Officer, Abubakar Yakubu, popularly known as Baba Amando, an incident that party officials say has raised serious concerns among members.

According to the NPP, the circumstances surrounding his detention have sparked questions about the protection of fundamental rights, including freedom of speech and political expression.

Regional executives have described the arrest as troubling and are demanding greater transparency from law enforcement authorities.

They maintain that the protest goes beyond the arrest of Baba Amando, framing it as a broader call to defend democratic principles, civil liberties, and the rule of law.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has assured the public that adequate security measures have been put in place to ensure the protest remains peaceful.

The Police have also urged participants to cooperate with officers and adhere to regulations governing public demonstrations.
