Former champions University of Education, Winneba, emerged victorious in the 9th Mini GUSA Games after edging past longstanding rivals University of Cape Coast (UCC) with a hard-fought 1–0 triumph in the final staged at UPSA Park.

The competition, held from May 5 to May 15, 2026, featured participation from 16 tertiary institutions nationwide. Athletes competed across multiple sporting disciplines, including football, athletics, volleyball, 3×3 basketball, tennis, table tennis, and badminton, under the banner: “Integrating University Sports with Academic Professionalism.”

UEW secured the decisive breakthrough moments before the interval after successfully converting a contentious penalty awarded by the referee. Although UCC began the encounter with greater attacking intensity and fashioned several promising opportunities in the opening stages, their efforts were consistently thwarted by an outstanding display from the UEW goalkeeper.

Following the restart, UCC intensified their offensive pressure in pursuit of an equaliser. However, UEW’s defensive unit remained resolute and tactically organised, preserving their slender advantage through to the final whistle.

The narrow victory sealed the championship for UEW and reaffirmed their status among Ghana’s elite university sporting institutions.

Notwithstanding their defeat in the final, UCC finished atop the overall medal standings with an impressive haul of 21 gold, 18 silver, and 11 bronze medals. Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology placed second on the medal table after securing 15 gold medals.
