The District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Assin South District, Hon. Jonathan Birikorang, has called for greater support and empowerment for women and girls to enable them contribute meaningfully to the development of society.

In a message to commemorate International Women’s Day, the DCE acknowledged the significant role women continue to play in the growth and development of the Assin South District. He described women as vital pillars of families, communities and the local economy.

According to him, women in the district have consistently demonstrated resilience, strength and dedication through their contributions in agriculture, education, healthcare and small-scale businesses. He noted that hardworking farmers, market women, teachers, nurses and other professionals continue to shape the future of the district through their efforts and sacrifices.

Hon. Birikorang also commended women who have ventured into entrepreneurship, leadership and community development initiatives, noting that their determination is inspiring many young girls to pursue their ambitions and believe in their potential.

“As we celebrate the achievements of women today, we must also renew our commitment to promoting gender equality and empowering women and girls through education, skills training and equal opportunities,” he stated.

He emphasised that empowering women not only benefits individuals but also strengthens families, communities and the nation as a whole.

The DCE further reaffirmed the commitment of the Assin South District Assembly to supporting programmes and initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of women and creating opportunities for them to actively participate in the socio-economic development of the district.

He encouraged women and girls in the district to continue believing in their abilities and remain determined in pursuing their dreams.

International Women’s Day is celebrated globally on March 8 each year to recognise the achievements of women and to promote gender equality across the world.
