The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yuhonu, has promoted all members of the Police Royal Ladies, a special all-female unit of the Ghana Police Service named in honour of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to their next ranks.

The promotion was announced following two separate parades of honour held by the Royal Ladies for Otumfuo  first at the Police Headquarters in Accra on January 6, 2026, and later at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi during the year’s first Akwasidae celebration on Sunday, February 1, 2026

Royal Ladies Unit Named After Otumfuo

Addressing the gathering at Manhyia, the IGP praised the Royal Ladies for their dedication, discipline, and exceptional service, describing their promotion as a reward for excellence and a gesture of appreciation from the Police Administration.

“We have these ladies called Royal Ladies. We named them after Otumfuo. They have come to grace this occasion and make history by presenting the first of its kind at the Manhyia Palace,” Mr. Yuhonu said. “These ladies have worked very hard and distinguished themselves. They are always ready to serve Ghana with diligence and pride. For honouring Otumfuo at the National Police Headquarters and again at Manhyia Palace, the Police Administration has decided to promote them to the next rank.”

Their naming after the Asantehene reflects the Service’s deep respect for Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s leadership, cultural influence, and contribution to national peace and unity.

The move has been widely applauded by members of the Service and the public as a progressive recognition of women’s rising contributions to national security and ceremonial representation.
