The Visit Cape Coast Initiative has received a major endorsement from the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Abeiku Santana, following a presentation of the initiative to him at his office. During the engagement, the Visit Cape Coast team outlined its long-term vision to promote Cape Coast as a leading destination for heritage, culture, education, creativity, hospitality, and tourism-driven economic development.
Abeiku Santana expressed strong support for the movement and called on people from across the Central Region, Ghana, and beyond to embrace and promote Cape Coast. According to him, regardless of where one comes from, the message remains simple:
“Whether you are from any part of the Central Region or even outside the region, all we are saying is: Visit Cape Coast—the cradle of civilisation in the Gold Coast and the cradle of civilisation in Ghana.” He described Cape Coast as a city distinguished by its people, hospitality, food, culture, and ability to receive visitors warmly.
“In Cape Coast, we know how to talk, we are very hospitable, and we know how to receive visitors. Our food is exquisite. And the women in Cape Coast—oh my God—and the men too.” He also appealed to the many people whose lives have been shaped by Cape Coast through education, family ties, work, culture, or personal experiences to become ambassadors for the city.
He referenced some of Cape Coast’s renowned schools, including Wesley Girls’ High School, Mfantsipim School, Ghana National College, Adisadel College, St. Augustine’s College, and Aggrey Memorial A.M.E. Zion Senior High School, urging their alumni and all others connected to the city to help promote its story.
“Wherever you are from, however you are connected to Cape Coast—whether through the schools you attended, family, work or any experience—make sure you post something about Cape Coast and use the hashtag #VisitCapeCoast.” He further encouraged the public to rally behind the movement, declaring:
“Let us all support this movement because ‘Oguaa, tumpan’—we have the best in everything.” Abeiku Santana also described Cape Coast as the ancient capital of the Gold Coast, highlighting the city’s deep historical significance and its central place in Ghana’s national story.
His endorsement adds renewed momentum to the Visit Cape Coast Initiative, which seeks to reposition the city through destination marketing, heritage preservation, cultural promotion, creative enterprise, community participation, and strategic partnerships.
The initiative continues to encourage residents, former students, visitors, institutions, businesses, creatives, and members of the diaspora to share their connections to Cape Coast and contribute to building a stronger tourism identity for the city.
