Cape Coast Castle Hosts Slavery Memorial 2026 Today Under the Theme "From Memory to Momentum"

As part of the ongoing Oguaa Fetu Afahye 2026 celebrations, the historic Cape Coast Castle today hosts the Slavery Memorial 2026 under the theme, "From Memory to Momentum." The event brings together traditional leaders, government officials, members of the African diaspora, scholars, students, cultural advocates, and visitors from around the world to reflect on the painful legacy of the trans-Atlantic slave trade while embracing a future shaped by unity, resilience, and progress. 

In gracing of the occasion dignitaries  such as the Vice President, H.E Professor Naana Opoku Agyemang, His Royal Majesty, Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II (Oguaa Omanhen), His Royal Majesty, Jira Yabon Wura Bi-Kuntuo Jewu Soale I (Overlord Of Gonja) and His Royal Majesty, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II (GA Mantse) will be will attending this event today in Cape Coast.

Held at one of Africa's most significant historical landmarks, the memorial serves as a solemn occasion to honour the millions of Africans whose lives were forever altered by slavery. Cape Coast Castle, once a major departure point for enslaved Africans, stands today as a powerful symbol of remembrance and education, drawing people from across the globe who seek to reconnect with history and pay tribute to the sacrifices of their ancestors.
