The Center for Democratic Development-Ghana (CDD-Ghana), with support from the Participation, Accountability, and Integrity for a Resilient Democracy (PAIReD) program, has completed its regional engagements on the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) with a session held at Pempamsie Hotel in Cape Coast on April 25, 2026.

The engagement, themed Strengthening the Rule of Law and the Fight Against Corruption through Citizen Support for the OSP and Codifying Public Ethics Rules, brought together traditional leaders, NGOs, and other stakeholders. Paramount Chief of Cape Coast, Osabarimba Dr. Kwesi Attah II was among dignitaries present.

Discussions focused on the OSP’s mandate, regional perspectives on anti-corruption efforts, and contributions to the validation of findings from CDD-Ghana’s eight-year assessment of office.

Team lead explained that the OSP was created under the Office of the Special Prosecutor Act, 2017, and enacted in 2018 as Act 919 mandates the office as an independent body. Since its establishment, the office has placed 31 individuals before the courts, averted an estimated GH¢7.1 billion in financial losses, recovered GH¢35.14 million, secured seven convictions, and suspended seven transactions.

The office has also expanded it youth engagements through the  Youth Against Corruption initiative, successfully recruiting senior high school and tertiary students as well as young professionals to support anti-corruption advocacy.

Stakeholders at the Cape Coast session emphasized the need for stronger citizen support and the codification of public ethics rules to reinforce the rule of law and accountability in Ghana.
