9 dead, 27 critically injured in head-on collision on Kintampo-Tamale highway

A horrific head-on collision between a passenger bus and a cargo truck loaded with tomato has claimed nine lives and left dozens fighting for survival.
The quiet of the early morning was shattered at approximately 3:00 am on April 3. A passenger bus (registration GS-2564-20), bound for Widaana in the Pusiga District, collided with a cargo truck (registration GR-4958-K) carrying a load of tomatoes toward Kumasi Suronuase, a small town in the Kintampo North municipality.
The force of the impact was catastrophic, reducing both vehicles to mangled metal and scattering cargo across the asphalt. According to eyewitness accounts, the disaster was triggered by a high-stakes maneuver.
The bus was reportedly attempting to overtake two vehicles when it strayed into the opposite lane, placing it directly in the path of the oncoming truck. Fatalities: 8 confirmed dead at the scene and 1 later passed away upon arrival at the hospital, while 27 individuals are currently in critical condition, receiving emergency care at the Kintampo municipal hospital.
This latest tragedy has reignited a fierce public outcry over the deplorable state of the Kintampo-Tamale highway. Known for its hazardous potholes and lack of maintenance, the stretch has become notorious for claimed lives.
