President John Dramani Mahama has visited the proposed site for the development of a new airport in Sunyani, as part of his ongoing “Resetting Ghana Tour.”
The visit signals a renewed push to expand Ghana’s aviation infrastructure and strengthen regional connectivity, particularly within the Bono Region and its surrounding areas. The proposed airport project is expected to play a pivotal role in easing transportation challenges, improving access for businesses, and opening up the region for increased investment opportunities.
During the inspection, President Mahama engaged with local authorities, traditional leaders, and technical experts to assess the viability and long-term impact of the project. Discussions focused on the scope of the development, key infrastructure requirements, and the economic potential the airport could unlock once completed.
He emphasized that modern and efficient transport systems remain critical to Ghana’s broader development agenda, noting that improved air connectivity can significantly enhance trade, tourism, and job creation. According to him, projects such as the Sunyani Airport are essential to ensuring balanced national growth and reducing the development gap between regions.
The Bono Region, known for its agricultural productivity and growing commercial activity, stands to benefit greatly from enhanced logistics and transport infrastructure. The proposed airport is expected to facilitate the movement of goods and people, support agribusiness exports, and attract both local and international investors.
President Mahama’s “Resetting Ghana Tour” continues to focus on engaging communities, assessing key development needs, and outlining strategic interventions aimed at revitalizing the country’s economy and infrastructure landscape.
