President Mahama Commissions Expanded Zonda Tec Vehicle Assembly Facility in Tema

President John Dramani Mahama has commissioned the expanded Zonda Tec Ghana vehicle assembly facility in Tema, reaffirming government’s commitment to strengthening Ghana’s domestic automotive industry through local production, skills development and value addition.

The President said Ghana must move beyond assembling vehicles largely from imported parts and work towards developing an integrated local automotive supply chain. He encouraged investment in the production of batteries, tyres, wiring systems, seats, glass, plastics and metal components, saying this would create opportunities for Ghanaian businesses and generate employment across the automotive value chain.

President Mahama also called for accessible and longer-term vehicle financing to enable more Ghanaians, including public sector workers, to purchase locally assembled vehicles and support demand for Made-in-Ghana automobiles.

He further noted that Ghana’s mineral resources and renewable energy potential could help build an automotive ecosystem linking mineral extraction to battery production, vehicle manufacturing and, ultimately, exports.

The Phase III expansion, which has a reported annual production capacity of 12,000 vehicles, is expected to further strengthen Ghana’s manufacturing sector and contribute to the country’s broader industrial transformation agenda.
