President John Dramani Mahama has reiterated ongoing efforts under the 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development Programme to grow the economy and improve livelihoods.
He noted that the efforts will lead to enhanced support for retirees.
President Mahama said this when he paid tribute to Ghana’s senior citizens, describing them as the foundation of the nation’s progress, while reaffirming Government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare, pensions and social protection to ensure dignified ageing.
Speaking at the Republic Day Senior Citizens’ Luncheon at the Presidential Villa in Accra, on Friday, he expressed appreciation for their lifelong service across key sectors and their contribution to national development.
The President also encouraged senior citizens to enrol in the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (MahamaCares) to support treatment for non-communicable diseases, and called for continued respect and care for the elderly within families and communities.
