Government is committed to intensifying the fight against illicit drug trafficking - Julius Debrah

The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, has reiterated Government’s commitment to intensifying the fight against illicit drug trafficking.

He also said the government is expanding support for treatment, recovery and reintegration for those battling addiction.

He said this during this year’s commemoration of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (World Drug Day) on Monday.

The event brought together stakeholders from government, the security services, civil society, development partners, traditional and religious leaders, and the youth of our country in a united call to protect Ghana’s future.

It was held under the theme, “The World Drug Problem: Persisting Issues, New Challenges, Innovative Responses,”.

The Chief of Staff said that the event reaffirmed the collective resolve to confront drug abuse and illicit trafficking through prevention, enforcement, rehabilitation and sustained collaboration.

"Drug abuse is more than a security challenge. It is a public health, social and developmental issue that threatens families, communities and the potential of our young people.

"On behalf of H.E. President John Dramani Mahama, I reiterated Government’s commitment to intensifying the fight against illicit drug trafficking while expanding support for treatment, recovery and reintegration for those battling addiction.

"This administration remains focused on creating opportunities for young people through education, skills development and employment because prevention begins with hope, purpose and opportunity.

"To every young Ghanaian: your future is priceless, protect it. Together, through vigilance, compassion and shared responsibility, we can build a safer, healthier and stronger Ghana for generations to come," he wrote on Facebook after the event.
