Ghana has secured a US$12.83 million grant from the African Development Bank (AfDB) to finance detailed feasibility studies for key infrastructure and industrial projects under the government’s Big Push programme.
The agreement was signed earlier today by the Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, marking a significant step toward accelerating major national development projects ahead of construction.
The grant will support feasibility studies for a proposed interchange at the 37 Military Hospital, as well as the redevelopment of four major markets across the country, Agbogbloshie Market in Accra, Techiman Market in the Bono East Region, Sekondi Market in the Western Region, and Mankessim Market in the Central Region.
In addition, the funding will cover preparatory studies for Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones to be established in the Afram Plains, Nsawam, and Builsa. According to Dr. Forson, the studies will include full engineering designs, detailed costings, and comprehensive environmental and social impact assessments to ensure the projects are fully prepared for construction.
He expressed appreciation to the African Development Bank and its Country Manager, Eyerusalem Fasika, for their strong partnership and continued support for Ghana’s development agenda. The government aims to complete the feasibility studies early enough to pave the way for construction works to commence in the near future, as part of efforts to boost infrastructure, trade, agro-industrial growth, and job creation nationwide.
