Ghana Embassy Confirms Arrest and Detention of Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu in the U.S.

The Embassy of Ghana has confirmed the arrest and detention of Mrs. Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu by United States authorities, following an extradition request submitted by Ghana in July 2024.
In a statement issued on January 15, 2026, and addressed to all media houses, Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Victor Emmanuel Smith, disclosed that Mrs. Tamakloe-Attionu is currently being held at the Nevada Southern Detention Center, located at 2190 East Mesquite Avenue, Pahrump, Nevada.
According to the Embassy, Mrs. Tamakloe-Attionu was arrested by U.S. Marshals on January 6, 2026, acting on the extradition request sent by Ghanaian authorities last year. Since her arrest, she has remained in custody at the detention facility, where she is awaiting court proceedings related to the extradition process.
The statement emphasized that the arrest forms part of established legal and judicial cooperation between Ghana and the United States. Mrs. Tamakloe-Attionu is expected to appear before a U.S. court, where matters relating to the extradition request will be considered in accordance with U.S. law.
The Embassy did not provide further details on the specific charges underlying the extradition request but noted that it continues to monitor the situation closely and will provide relevant updates as the legal process unfolds. The statement was signed by Victor Emmanuel Smith, Ghana’s Ambassador, underscoring the official nature of the confirmation and the government’s commitment to keeping the public informed on the matter.
