Ghana’s goalkeeper coach Fatawu Dauda has opened up on the upcoming friendly matches against Germany, Austria and Mexico.
The global tournament, set to be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, will feature an expanded field of 48 nations, with Ghana securing one of Africa’s nine automatic slots. The West African giants are drawn in Group L alongside European powerhouse England national football team, 2018 finalists Croatia national football team, and Panama national football team.
As the tournament approaches, the Ghana FA has lined up three high-profile friendlies against Germany and Austria, scheduled for March 2026, with the team expected to take on Mexico in their third preparatory game in May.
However, the former Ghana goalkeeper has expressed his excitement over the upcoming pre- friendly matches, describing them as crucial opportunities to evaluate the Black Stars ahead of the Mundial. According to Dauda, these matches are not just about results but also about gaining insight into team cohesion, tactical adaptability, and individual performances under pressure.
“That’s two high-profile games. They have all qualified for the World Cup, and it’s a good test for us as technical team and players. We look forward to those games. It can give us ideas about how we should prepare for the 2026 World Cup,” Dauda said.
Having represented Ghana at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, Dauda brings valuable experience and perspective to the discussion. He believes that the upcoming friendlies against Germany national football team, Austria national football team, and Mexico national football team will provide a fair assessment of the squad’s strengths and areas for improvement.
With these high-profile friendlies on the horizon, Dauda believes Ghana will gain crucial insights that could shape their approach and enhance their chances of making a strong impact at the 2026 World Cup.
