E-Visa system to boost border security, pre-arrival screening – Muntaka

The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, says Ghana’s newly launched E-Visa Service will enhance national security by allowing authorities to screen travellers before they arrive in the country.

Speaking at the official launch of the E-Visa platform at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City on Monday, May 25, the Minister described the initiative as a major step in Ghana’s digital transformation and border management efforts.

According to him, the system is expected to improve visa processing while strengthening intelligence-driven security operations at the country’s entry points.

Mr. Muntaka explained that the platform enables security agencies to conduct advance background checks on applicants, helping authorities identify potential threats before travellers board flights to Ghana.

He noted that the initiative forms part of broader government efforts to modernise immigration systems and improve national security through technology-driven solutions.

Mr Muntaka Mubarak said the E-Visa initiative represents a modern approach to border control that balances openness with strict security safeguards.

He noted that the platform would also eliminate delays and outdated manual procedures in visa processing, improving speed and reliability for applicants.

The Interior Minister further emphasised that Ghana remains open to business, tourism and international partnerships, but insisted that openness would not compromise national security.
