Ghana have booked their place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after defeating Comoros 1-0 on Sunday night at the Accra Sports Stadium, sealing qualification amid scenes of jubilation.
The victory confirmed the Black Stars’ return to football’s grandest stage for a fifth time, following appearances in 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2022. Though it was not the most fluid display, Otto Addo’s side showed composure and determination to get the job done in front of an electric home crowd.
The first half offered little excitement as Ghana struggled to break down a compact Comoros side. But the momentum shifted after the break, and the breakthrough arrived early in the second half when Mohammed Kudus tapped home from close range after a precise low pass from Thomas Partey.
From that point, the Black Stars managed the game efficiently, keeping their composure as the fans turned the stadium into a carnival atmosphere.
Elsewhere, Mali thrashed Madagascar in Bamako, meaning Ghana would have qualified regardless of the result. However, the win was the perfect way to cap off a campaign in which the Black Stars remained dominant at home and showed resilience throughout.
Ghana will now turn their attention to the World Cup draw on December 5, where they will discover their group opponents for the 2026 tournament to be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
