Former Black Stars captain and Ghana football legend Asamoah Gyan has called on all Ghanaians, both at home and in the diaspora, to unite behind the national team as they prepare to represent the country at the FIFA World Cup.
In an inspiring message following the announcement of Ghana's 26-man squad for the tournament, Gyan congratulated the selected players and urged them to seize the opportunity to make the nation proud on the global stage. "The Black Stars are our brand, our pride, and our only product," he stated, emphasizing the importance of football as a powerful symbol of national identity and unity.
Addressing the players, Gyan expressed confidence in the squad, saying, "To the 26 warriors named for the World Cup, congratulations. The nation believes in you. I believe in you, just like my generation believed in the Black Stars." The former striker also appealed to Ghanaians to set aside their differences and rally behind the team, describing football as the greatest game that unites the nation.
"To Ghana and all Ghanaians in the diaspora, let's put our differences behind us. Football is the greatest game that unites us. Let's come together once again and give our ultimate support to the Black Stars," he said. Gyan further highlighted the World Cup as an opportunity to showcase Ghana to the world, encouraging citizens to use the tournament as a platform to promote the country's image and values.
He extended appreciation to Ghana's leadership and football stakeholders for their efforts in helping the nation secure its place at the tournament. He acknowledged President John Mahama, Sports Minister Kofi Adams, the leadership of the Ghana Football Association under Kurt Okraku, the media, fans, and all Ghanaians for their collective support.
"This is our time. We made it together. Let's rally behind the Stars," he urged. Concluding his message, Gyan reminded supporters that unity remains the most important factor regardless of the team's results. "Win, lose, or draw, we'll all be smiling together if we stand as one. Go make us proud, boys. Ghana is behind you."
