Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka's funeral rescheduled to July 31

The former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has announced the new dates for the burial and funeral rites of the late Apostle Emeritus Dr. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka following consultations with family elders and leadership of the Kristo Asafo Church.

The burial and funeral ceremonies, initially expected to take place on 25th June, 2026, have now been rescheduled to July 30 and 31, 2026.

According to her, the late industrialist and founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission will be buried at Gomoa Mpota in the Central Region.

She added that the main funeral service is expected to draw thousands of mourners and admirers to the Independence Square in Accra on 31st July, where a state-style farewell will be held in honour of the renowned inventor, entrepreneur and religious leader.

A thanksgiving service will later take place in Kumasi the following week.

Mourners attending the 31st July service are expected to wear a black and red cloth bearing the image of the late Apostle, while white and black cloth has been designated for the thanksgiving service.

Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, celebrated for pioneering Ghana's indigenous automobile manufacturing industry through Kantanka Automobile, passed away on September 11, 2025 at the age of 113 years.

Widely admired for blending faith, innovation and African industrial ambition, the late Kristo Asafo leader left behind a legacy that transformed local manufacturing and inspired generations of young Ghanaian inventors and entrepreneurs.

The announcement of the new funeral dates is expected to set the stage for what could become one of the largest funeral gatherings in recent years, as followers, political leaders, traditional authorities and industry players prepare to honor the man many described as a symbol of Ghanaian ingenuity.
