Goal scoring is a significant problem for Ghana Premier League clubs, according to Kotoko coach Prosper Ogum.

According to the highly-rated tactician, most clubs in the league excel at defending, making it challenging for opponents to break through their defensive setups. Speaking after his team’s narrow 2-0 victory over Gold Stars, the coach highlighted the ease with which Ghanaian teams adapt to defensive play compared to attacking strategies.

“The nature of the league is such that it’s very defensive. Most of the teams can defend very well. It’s easier for Ghanaian teams to defend than to attack and create and score,” coach Prosper Narteh Ogum remarked during the post-match interview. While commending the defensive strengths of the league, Coach Ogum also reiterated his concerns about goal-scoring challenges, a persistent issue among Premier League clubs.

He noted that while teams manage to create scoring opportunities, the absence of natural finishers often costs them crucial points.

“Goal scoring has actually been an issue in the league. If you watch closely, every team is able to create chances, but it’s about scoring. Goal scoring is an art. Sometimes, if you have people who are natural goal scorers, it is easier. But unfortunately, we don’t have these natural goal scorers across the teams, and that is why sometimes a team can play very well and still not get a point,” Ogum explained.

This weekend, coach Prosper Narteh Ogum is hoping his Asante Kotoko side will be able to score goals in their game against Medeama SC on Sunday to merit all three maximum points.
