Former Ghana international Samuel Inkoom has urged the current Black Stars players to serve wholeheartedly amid the teams’ poor start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The West African football giants began the campaign with a 2-0 defeat to neighbours Ivory Coast in Bouake before suffering a damaging defeat at the Accra Sports Stadium to The Gambia, having threw away their two-goal lead.

Currently, the Black Stars are bottom of Group C after suffering back-to-back defeats in the 2027 AFCON qualifiers. The results have raised concerns about Ghana’s chances of qualifying, having missed the 2025 tournament.

Speaking to Obaapa Radio, the former Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak star raised concerns about player commitment, urging the current squad to serve the nation wholeheartedly. “In my opinion, the team spirit is not there, to be very honest. You can see individual brilliance, but playing as a team remains the main problem.

“Injuries disrupted the team’s preparations for the games against Ivory Coast and The Gambia, but that should not be an excuse because, at the end of the day, we have a lot of players playing week in, week out.

“I would plead with the current squad to serve the country wholeheartedly. They should serve the nation well and earn the blessings that come with it.” He said. The Black Stars will return for the continuation of the qualifiers next month and are expected to take on Somalia in a double-header.
