DVLA CEO supports 5-year-old okro seller along Tamale–Yendi Highway with GHC10,000

A five-year-old girl, Mariama Alhassan, who sells okro along the Vitting highway in Tamale to feed her family, has received cash support of Ten Thousand Ghana Cedis (10,000) from the Chief Executive Officer of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Julius Neequaye Kotey.

The CEO who was on his way from Yendi spotted little Mariam struggling to cross the Tamale–Yendi Highway at Vitting in the Tamale Metropolis with a pan of fresh okro on her head to sell.

In a kind gesture and moved by the sight, Chief Executive Officer of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Julius Neequaye Kotey stopped to speak with the child and later engaged her family, gave her an amount of GHC10,000 to support her wellbeing, education, and overall development.

The DVLA CEO expressed concern about a little girl being allowed cross such a dangerous highway to sell.

He instructed the family to stop sending the little girl out to sell and also pledged to regularly check on Mariama to ensure her wellbeing, education, and overall development.
